Social Experiment 2/16- 2/23 Monday, Feb 23 2009

This week I did a bunch of little things. My week started off when my roommate locked herself out of her bedroom. I went down to get a spare key at our office as she searched her car looking franticly for her lost key. Thankfully we were able to get a spare key but we never ended up finding the missing one, we still wonder where it is….

The next day, my roommates and I were talking about how we have not really spent much time with each other lately so I suggested that I make dinner and we can all sit around and catch up. I enjoy cooking if it is for other people, I get bored when its only for myself.

Throughout the rest of the week, I did just tiny favors like letting a car go in front of me in traffic, which for some reason is usually a big pet peeve of mine, I get annoyed so easily in traffic! I let go of another annoyance of mine by letting someone cut me in line at the grocery store, I get very anxious waiting in lines for some reason. In the end it did not turn out as bad as I though it was, it was actually easy and it helped someone’s day.

Social Experiment Week 2/9/09-2/16/09 Monday, Feb 16 2009

Each week my favors seem to have a theme. This week it was homework. My boyfriend was having trouble writing a paper, he is more of a science and technology guy. He had an idea of what he wanted to say but was having trouble of expressing it on paper. Although I do not consider myself a fantastic writer I was still able to give him some pointers and help him relax and get it done.

Two days later, my friend was having problems writing a paper on Pandora’s Box. I have read up on this topic before so I was able to give some suggestions and help her understand the topic better.

Although I always put off my homework and never really enjoy doing it, I ended up enjoying helping my friends. Maybe it was because I was interacting with someone else, or because I like the feeling of helping somebody. Either way it was beneficial to me and my friends. If they ever need help again I would be more than happy to, as long as it is not math!

Social Experiment Week 2/2/09-2/09/09 Monday, Feb 9 2009

My favors for this week turned into just one large favor. My sister
was moving out of her apartment and into a new house with her boyfriend. Although helping her move can be seen as a sisterly duty, I went above and beyond what I would have usually done.

Every day I took time out of my day to drive to Clearwater and help her move. Although she had her boyfriend to move the heavy stuff, I believe she really appreciated me there to help her decide where the furniture was going and where things should be hung. I think she was grateful to have another woman’s input.

The moving process also went a lot faster. She trusts my opinions and taste, so she would put me in a room and let me decorate it and set it up as I would like, meanwhile she was in another room doing the same thing. We cut the time in half and after a week her new house is looking almost complete.

Not only did I have fun letting my inner interior decorating skills come out but I also enjoyed spending time with my sister. I usually only see her once a week, so it was nice to be in her company

Pitching to Bloggers Thursday, Feb 5 2009

Pitching your product or idea to a blogger could be a strategic move
on you or your companys part, especially if it is to a bloggers who is
popular and his/ her blogs are read frequently.

For example if you are trying to sell a new kitchen appliance, a good
idea would be to send this product to a know food blogger, hopefully
they like your product they will do the selling for you. The readers
of this blog then might be interested in your product because of the
trusted source who told them about it, it is not like it was an
advertisement.

<On this website it provides you with tips on how to contact a blogger and pitch your
product to them. The main tip the website gives you is to become
familiar with the blogger and visit their site as often as possible.
After you are familiar with the page, contact the blogger and
introduce yourself. The author of this page explains that you should
pretend you are at a “virtual cocktail party.” This means to think of
what you would say and how you would act if you met them in person. The more effort you put into forming a friendship the more they will be willing to helping you.

This website says that, “Everyone wants to now the secret formula to pitching blogs. The secret is it takes more than pitching.”

The website go on to mention the same ideas as the previous. It stresses the importance of forming a close relationship. The bloggers want to know that you are actually interested in their topics and you are not just using them as a free way to get press for your product.
